Ok, in a simulated zero sum economy, it's not possible for every one to prosper (turn a profit), is it?
I'm thinking about an economy sim game and I can't figure out where new money should come from.
What make a free market work? Everyone works, collects a wage, and buys goods that cost more the the wages paid to create them. How is this sustainable?

02:06 am - In need of geek help OR pick a PHP framework
Ok, so I've got a project that has me working in PHP. Does anyone have framework suggestions so I don't get too much PHP on myself?
Looking at SilverStripe and symfony at the moment. I'm pretty sure I'd like an ORM that I can hook to an existing Oracle database. Smarty templates would be a plus. A different template language might be OK, but I've touched smarty a bit and it seems to be the leader for PHP.
Just looking for a short learning curve so I can get data into and out of Oracle easily. RESTful/Ajaxy things would possibly be nice, but likely won't get exploited.

What kind of shitty bullshit exists in this world. I'm actually trying to sign up for twitter, but the site totally doesn't Freekin' work in FireFox. What the balls is that about. Couldn't create an account, so I used IE on the PC that happened to be next to me, fine. Then, I can't Freekin' log in. Forget it, I didn't want to systematically destroy the Universe anyway.
...ETA... Umm... Ok, so I stopped blocking cookies and works now. (No one say ANYTHING!)

11:52 am - Why do I always make the wrong choice
Grrr... so I did some trading this morning. I was deciding between OIL (Crude futures) and SKF (Fund that short on the financial sector). OIL's about at the support price and has been channelling for a few weeks and I missed the last two bounces.
SKF is taking a major hit because less bad news is good news again for banks at the moment.
When I chose OIL it was up a bit and SKF was down alot and seem to be falling. ... So now OIL's down $.45 and SKF is down 8.80 and still rising. Would have made $14/share already if I'd gone SKF. I'd even placed a LIMIT buy for it, and kept revising the price down as I watched the shares plumit. But then I lost my nerve and cancelled the order.
In summary: Boo me. :(
OIL should still rebound and make me some money, but SKF would have been way cooler.

Just got back from lunch at the North Market, and when I took my helmet off I found that the joint on the left side was no longer held together. Verry strange, tyring to get in touch with the shop I got it from to see what to do.

12:21 am - Update of sorts and an invitation
Ok, first the invitation. Adult (18+) skating, tomorrow (Tuesday June 10) from 9 to midnight at USA skates -- 3362 Refugee Rd 43232. Squish, I and some others are going, feel free to join us.
Renewed intrest in skating is due to my old pair exploding and Squish and I getting new skates :)
Other update-ish things:
1) Got my bike fixed, twice. The shifter exploded after turning the first corner attempting to ride it home from being overhauled.
2) Got new skates, because later that day my left skate exploded, while I was skating to the library.
3) Line voltage stings. I tried to defend myself saying to Squish "I was trying to get it out of the water" ... when I realized just how dumb that sounds :-P.
4) If you're wondering what electronic device was siting in water, that would be the capacitor that starts the blower fan in my A/C and furnace. The air handler decided to change careers and become a dehumidifier. I spend an hour and a half tonight defrosting it. Hopefully it's decided to return to its proper vocation and a call to the HVAC guy won't be required this time.
